I applaud businesses for trying to rebuild cities, but if they truly seek to address the “root causes” of the systemic problems we see across the country, then they should find the courage to take on a big one: rebuilding families. Too few fathers (and too few educational choices) will continue to plague our communities — rendering otherwise well-meaning efforts largely futile — while too many CEOs direct their ample time, talent and treasure to “safer” causes.
